Position title: Graduate Student | Fission-Fusion Hybrid Systems

Pronouns: he/him/his

Email: mnyberg@wisc.edu

I am a third year PhD student working on a fusion-fission hybrid subcritical reactor design for reusing and reducing the long-lived portions of used nuclear fuel. This project includes a broad range of nuclear topics such as the fission nuclear fuel cycle, economics of advanced reactors, neutronic and thermal-hydraulic design of advanced reactors, and fusion energy technology. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to request papers/other materials.

I am a former undergraduate at UW-Madison and am originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I enjoy sports such as basketball, football (both types), and kickball (the department team “Gone Fission” was the 2023 summer champ), as well as various genres of music. Grad school has also provided the opportunity to travel and I enjoy history, art, and nature wherever I go.
